Opium
The secrets that you’ve always told me
I’ve put them all behind through getting high
The secrets that I never should’ve known
Are running through my veins into my soul
It just comes in handy for a bad day
All I wanna do is get a little hazed
This just comes in handy for a bad day
This just comes in handy for a bad day
The heroin I take just helps me die
A slower death that keeps my soul alive
My dreams are filled as mystery unfolds
Another hedonistic tended goal
This just comes in handy for a bad day
All I wanna do is get a little hazed
This just comes in handy for a bad day
This just comes in handy for a bad day
Shallow Play
I know you play with shallow lies
Your costumes are just a fur in disguise
We know your games your serial crimes
You take a woman by the neck to die
Your evil face will soon be mine
I know your feet are walking towards my eyes
I know the place where you reside
It’s near the factory where you work at night
I’m not afraid of what you’ll do
I’ve seen so many persons worse than you
You think you’re brave, you think you’re right
But you should know that you will die tonight
Sense
They told your mom that you weren’t making any sense
That you’re a waster, a dirty prankster trying to stir some suspense
Don’t you just wanna run downtown?
They told your dad that you weren’t making any sense
That you’re a waster, a dirty prankster trying to stir some innocence
Don’t you just wanna run downtown?
Violent
You had a perfect life
You’re born with innocence
You had a perfect wife
But now you’re sick of it
You spend your time alone in silence
You think about the things you would’ve done
And then you take a pill to fight the
Voices that are running through your head
You kill in silence
A bullet through the head
Your work is violent
You’d rather see her dead
But I know where you find you when it’s at night
And I know how you try to hide all your lies
Your lies
Soft
When I was young, in love, I’d be
A multipersonality
Those days are gone when I was sixteen
My mother wrote it out for me
I miss those special times when I wasn’t me
I had it all figured out
Munich
You’re better off you said If we would stay apart
The letters that we sent, they don’t reflect our hearts
So when I’m in town I’ll try to stay away
You’re beautiful girl, it’s all I have to say
So I tonight will try to stay away
So hard tonight, to let you get away
You’re trying to set me up to be a broken man
I know you are the kind that likes the upper hand
So when I’m in town, I’ll try to look away
True Lies
If a memory makes the moment I feel I’ve been here before
Looking at the sky above me, staring down at the floor
I try to explain my reasons the logic of simpleness
But the reasoning of the moment is nothing I can contest
You never hear what I say you never see what I do
You always just get your way I’m so confuesed
I think of what you do all day I wonder if what you say is true
You always get what you want I can’t trust you
Hearts for Sale
There’s too many things I hardly doubt I’m ever really gonna know
Many are the things to figure out I’m thinking that I’ll never know
I’ll try to talk it out but you just walk away and go
There’s too many things I hardly doubt, I’ll ever really wanna know
But I know that your heart is for sale
I know that I’ve become once more a stranger
Special
If you think your special then you might be right
I see you pulling out your knives to hurt your friends and to kill you wife
Something’s taking over your state of mind
I know you’ve wanted for a long, long time
Taking out your anger on all your friends
I know you’ve wanted for a long, long time
Memento
Sometimes I need something to keep reminding me
About the countless types of possibilities
I’ve got a brand new car a brand new watch but I
I don’t remember buying any one of these
I live a whole new life with a wife in fantasy
She takes a pill just to feel what I’m like on ecstasy
And then she walks outside in the cold, and pouring rain
But I’ve always wanted, always wanted out
So tonight, I’ll be alive
Saturday Night
Ocean tides are low, the moon’s good for sailing
Lovers on a boat, the water surrounds them
“Aye aye, oh oh” the captain is waving the night that’s coming
“Aye aye, oh oh” together we’re sailing into the darkness
When should the sun go down on a Saturday night?
When should the sun go down, when the moon is bright?

Interview: Datsyuk

1.) Your artist name is “Datsyuk.” Where did you get this name from?
Datsyuk is the last name of my favorite hockey player, Pavel Datsyuk.
2.) Tell us a little bit about your first single, “Suicide Dreams.” What was the idea behind writing the song?
“Suicide Dreams” depicts a somewhat existential outlook in the sense of accepting one’s ultimate fate as a common entity between all living things, and if something of incomparable value is lost, life’s overall worth can be questioned. A dream of committing suicide doesn’t necessarily mean one is suicidal. Rather it could be a sign that something in one’s life has gotten out of hand, and a change needs to be made. Also, the whole dreaming of dieing theme brings me back to Gary Jules’s “Mad World” in Donnie Darko, and with that comes a very chilling state of mind. The beauty and emotion behind Brooke’s voice interleaving with the dark subject matter of the lyrics emit a haunting overtone. With the entire album, the ultimate goal was to capture an eerie but beautiful vibe through the emotional content of the words mixed with the moods produced by the dreamy synth layers. Perfect timing for the Halloween season.
3.) “Suicide Dreams” sounds like it was written during a sad period in someone’s life. Is that the case with you?
The emotions behind the song are real. Struggling to hold onto a failing relationship can be pretty daunting. You put so much into someone and then within a second everything you knew could be gone. It’s not easy accepting that the relationship with the person you’re in love with isn’t working. So yes throughout the process of writing this album I’ve been in some downer moods, but life goes on.
4.) Who do you listen to, and what inspires you to write music?
I really like Porcelain Raft. It’s hard to name just a few artists. There is so much good music being made. I listen to a lot of slow music. Some other artists I like are Holy Other, Keep Shelly In Athens, How To Dress Well, Active Child, New Shoes, Games, Beach House, Sleep Over, The Soft Moon, Teen Daze, Tycho, INXS, 3 Six Mafia, Salem, Elite Gymnastics, The Mary Onettes, Frank Ocean, JJ, Kisses, Washed Out, Tropics, Moscow Olympics. Those are pretty much the best of the best for me.
5.) We know that you’re in The New Division, tell us a little bit about how you got involved with them.
One of my friends showed me a few songs from The New Division a few years back, and I instantaneously fell in love. The songs had more of a shoegaze vibe back then, but with a little twist of electronics. I ended up going to a New Division show in Riverside at this great coffee shop called Back To The Grind. The show promoter introduced my friend and I to the band, and somehow we exchanged numbers. I remember talking to John about his Alesis Micron Keyboard because I had the same one. John would send me songs and I would give him my opinion on what did and did not sound good. Then one day about a month or two after I met the band, I got a text from John asking me if I wanted to come try out. Me eyes lit up. At the time I was listening to The New Division songs more than any other artist, so it was like getting an invite to join my favorite band. It felt pretty surreal. Within two weeks of trying out I played my first show with them.
6.) You have an album coming out called, “Hanging On To You.” What can we expect from this release?
With “Hanging On To You” you can expect an emotional album with a dreamy touch. All the songs were written with the same general theme, so they work well together as an album. Each song is very different, but the songs as a whole compliment each other. I would say the album flows very well and captures a very distinct mood.
7.) Where can people find your music?
People can find my music over at my bandcamp page (datsyuk.bandcamp.com). Also Division 87 will release the album October 27th as a digital download, and the option of a physical CD is available too. The songs will also be released via iTunes. To get all the Datsyuk updates you can “like” the Division 87 facebook page.
Most listeners know “John Glenn” (John Kunkel) from his long standing position as The New Division frontman. What few know however is that he also does some dance music on the side for fun.
Division 87 is proud to showcase “The One Thing I Can’t Have,” a piece removed from John’s upcoming collection/release titled “Gemini.”
Infusing a little bit of Above & Beyond with some Deadmau5 influence, this track is meant for lovers of dance music.
"Suicide Dreams," by Datsyuk

Datsyuk is the side project of New Division’s synth player, Mark Michalski. Featuring the vocals of Brooke Lohman, “Suicide Dreams” provides some blissful vocals, backed up with some downtempo beats over airey squad-synths.
Without a doub Datsyuk has made a few essential statements through his first official single. Check out this dreamy cut from his upcoming release, “Hanging On To You.”
